Completing the range of film cameras created by ARRI powerhouse ARRI, the Mini and Mini LF fit perfectly into underwater production by giving shooters a more compact complement to their ARRI camera line. The ALEXA Mini and Mini LF feature a carbon fiber housing, sealed electronics integrated with sensors and PL mounts made of titanium.
The Mini can record ProRes at 200 fps or uncompressed ARRRIRAW at 30 fps on built-in CFast 2.0 memory cards. The lens mount can be switched between PL, B4 and Canon EF.
When shooting in Open Gate, which uses the full sensor area, the Mini LF captures uncompressed 4.5K ARRIRAW at 40 fps or 60 fps at an aspect ratio of 2.39: 1.
The Mini and Mini LF can accommodate the new ARRI LPL mount, which is designed to cover the entire ARRI sensor size range with optimized full sensor coverage.
This housing has been produced in collaboration with HydroFlex, the world's leading underwater film equipment rental house, owned by Pete Romano, ASC. Pete has over 30 years of experience in designing underwater housings for film cameras and numerous credits as the underwater cinematographer for some of Hollywood's most memorable feature films. Pete's experience, combined with Nauticam's unmatched design and manufacturing capabilities, form the perfect underwater housing system for the Alexa Mini, available for rental from HydroFlex Partners worldwide.
Alexa Mini is ideal for use on drones, gimbals and integrates seamlessly into the Nauticam cinema system. The Alexa 4:3 sensor, complete with anamorphic removal, ARRIRAW and in-camera ProRes recording to CFast 2.0 cards in an underwater system, captures images that cut seamlessly with other Alexa cameras on set, with the same workflow. The Mini LF records to ARRI's Codex SSD Codex drives.
Designed with both owner/operators and rental markets in mind, the Nauticam system is very easy to set up. Armed with just a coin and a #3 Allen wrench, the entire lens and bracket control system is built into the base plate. No. 3 Allen wrench, the entire lens and bracket control system is built into the camera base plate outside the housing. This means that the equipment can be built on a tabletop, with good light and plenty of working space. Once the camera is mounted on its tray, the entire system slides into the housing and locks securely in place.
The rear of the housing features an ARRI GPB-1 control unit that interfaces with 10 assignable control buttons on the right rear of the housing. This enhanced control system allows dialing in the housing to meet the exact needs of the shoot.
Our unique 250mm optically coated glass dome port is supplied with every system, and we believe it is the best optic available for cine lenses. The 250mm (10-inch) dome port diameter is key to good wide-angle imaging performance with many underwater cine lenses. Smaller domes can work well with close-focus SLR lenses, but many cine lenses have a longer minimum focusing distance in the .35-.40m (14-16 ″) range. Using Arri Master Prime T1.4 / 14mm, with its .4m MFD as an example, the 250mm dome provides clearly superior results, with much less corner softness than smaller domes. This is the same dome used in the optical system designed in conjunction with HydroFlex for Alexa65 and used in film productions. The glass dome is robust and extremely scratch resistant. Broadband anti-reflective coatings eliminate glare, reflections and ghosting from the port optics. A rugged machined aluminum shield protects the dome and provides additional glare resistance.
The housing is shipped with a V-Mount battery plate and a LEMO connector for the Alexa Mini camera. Ample space is available for a variety of battery pack sizes to be used in the housing, providing extended run times. Surface-supplemented power is also an option for all-day tethered shooting.
A sliding weight bracket allows the front-rear edge to dynamically adjust in the water, providing a natural up or down port position as needed. The bracket accepts readily available dive weights, which are easily obtained on site. Additional counterweights can be attached to the housing skids, or to trim weight mounting locations strategically placed inside the housing, to dial in neutral buoyancy and left-to-right balance.
Unhindered surface control is a key need of many top underwater professionals, and those needs have been integrated in as many ways as possible throughout the design process. The basic "diver-controlled" system completely satisfies the needs of a single operator, but our line of production set oriented accessories make it possible to meet the needs of a single operator.

The ARRI ALEXA Mini and ALEXA Mini LF film cameras bring ARRI's legendary image quality and performance to a more compact and portable form factor, making them ideal for underwater use. The Mini uses a Super35mm sensor to capture a maximum resolution of 3.4K Open Gate shooting. The Mini LF uses the large format sensor to record in ARRIRAW up to 4.5K. This digital cinema system housing is compatible with both cameras.
