The next generation of WWL-1 is here!
The WWL-1B features the same stunningly sharp optics as the WWL-1, but now includes an integrated aluminum buoyancy collar to make it nearly water neutral. The WWL-1 and now the WWL-1B remain the highest quality wet-swappable underwater wide-angle conversion optics ever made, with unmatched contrast, overall sharpness, corner sharpness and clarity. The design is truly all-in-one, allowing the zoom to be used as a framing tool, and can be removed in the water for close-ups and macro shots.

Each Nauticam lens is a "clean slate" design. These optical systems are designed entirely as underwater corrective and conversion optics, not as adaptations of airborne designs. The process is not easy, but the images captured by WWL-1, WWL-1B and previous Nauticam optical designs demonstrate that the effort is well spent.
WWL-B is a full zoom lens that works well across the entire zoom range of popular compacts, Micro Four Thirds systems with power zoom lenses and the latest Sony full frame 28-60mm f/4-5.6. This feature distinguishes this lens from all others on the market, which are designed for use at a single focal length. This feature distinguishes this lens from all others on the market, which are designed for use at a single focal length. The ability to be used with zoom makes WWL-1B extremely versatile! A touch of zoom can be used to crop a subject in-camera or for close-up shots without removing the lens.
130 degrees of glorious wide-angle coverage, and even a little wider if your camera system allows it! This is a field of view that falls between the popular full-frame fisheye lenses (180 degrees diagonal) and ultra-wide rectilinear zooms (approximately 110 degrees). This angle of coverage was targeted from the beginning as an ideal angle of coverage for a wide variety of underwater imaging scenarios. Large animals, close-focus wide-angle shots of reef-dwelling creatures and even mid-range fish portraits are within the WWL-1B's range.
The state-of-the-art optical design employed in WWL-1B results in extremely high sharpness, contrast and edge sharpness. The design is optimized for today's high-resolution sensors as well as tomorrow's even higher resolution sensors.
The ability to focus up close is key, and WWL-1B does this amazingly well. With all wide-angle compatible systems, the lens can focus on the front of its dome lens element, maximizing the impact of even small subjects. Surprisingly, with the Panasonic 14-42 power zoom, the lens can still focus on the front of the dome port when zoomed to full telephoto. The best macro images will always be obtained by removing the WWL-1B and mounting a macro converter (such as CMC-1 or CMC-2), but in situations where that is difficult, close-ups can still be obtained without removing the wide-angle. conversion lens.
Wet lenses have traditionally been an accessory geared towards compact cameras, but Nauticam was intended from the beginning to support a wider range of systems, with larger sensors.
Most impressive is the excellent performance available with Sony A7 series full-frame cameras using the Sony 28mm f/2 Prime lens. In our tests, this combination outperformed all wide-angle lenses behind Sony's dome ports and is particularly well suited to the Sony A7R IV's demanding 61-megapixel sensor.
Micro four-thirds systems used with motorized zoom lenses are another attractive combination. 130 degrees at the wide end, with a 3x zoom range and close focus at the front of the dome. This combination is wider, sharper and has less distortion than the Panasonic 7-14 f/4 and Olympus 7-14 f/2.8 lenses behind a dome port. Unscrew the lens and attach a CMC for high-power macro photography, capturing a 22mm (just under 1″) wide image area. The full range of compatible systems is listed below.
The WWL-1 and WWL-1B share the same compatibility and full compatibility details can be found here. Note that the 83250 or 83251 bayonet mount converter II must be used to connect the WWL-1B.
The WWL-1B features the Bayonet Mount II mounting system to maximize ease of use. Lenses snap into place and lock securely. A blue locking tab releases the lens for removal, and lens holders provide storage for lenses on a strobe arm when not in use. WWL-1B is compatible with PN 83250 M67 to Bayonet Mount Converter II and 83251 M77 to Bayonet Mount Converter II (sold separately).
The bayonet mount system has been designed to incorporate vents that quickly flood the space between the lens and camera, eliminating air bubbles.
